THRILLER POSTER 1 : THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

In order to create a poster of my own, belonging to the genre of Thrillers, in the next 5 posts I am going to be analysing five different existing thriller posters in order to wider my understanding of the common conventions of thriller posters.

The first thriller poster I am going to be analysing is The Dark Knight :

1. Central image is the main protagonist (batman), positioned in a low angle shot making him appear as a superior, dominant and powerful figure

2. The superiority is supported by Batman being placed in the centre of the image as well as centre to the burning building in the background

3. Batman is wearing an all black suit as well as a face mask shielding his identity, creating a sense of mystery

4. The title of the film is a main aspect of the poster, along with the Batman logo printed behind the title (the fire in the background on the burning building is also shaped into the batman logo)

5. The colour palette of the poster is all dark and gloomy colours, making the fire stand out further

6. Fire promotes connotations of danger, which supports the thriller genre

7. Tagline : 'WELCOME TO A WORLD WITHOUT RULES' suggesting that the film is action packed and
                                                                       thrilling

                                                                       8. At the bottom of the poster there is institutional
information that appears unreadable, this technique is to
not divert the viewers attention away from the main
aspects of the poster, although the release date is bold
